ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

 

    The Social Work department was started in the year 2005 and has an unprecedented 13 years of glorious and dedicated service in social work education and practice. We are marching on from strength to strength. The purpose of the course was to study and achieve scientific knowledge about the diverse problems and issues in the society. Prepares the students with the necessary skills for the empowerment of people with social courage, ability to apply skills for social research and develop an attitudinal courage to work with people and organizations. We have special commitment and concern for agencies and NGO’s. This is reflected in all our endeavors towards their welfare. The department continuous its journey toward reaching the unreached.

MSW degree Programme is two year programme in pattern of semesters. The department comes under un-aided session in which a candidate who has qualified in Bachelor’s degree with 55% in any discipline is eligible foe seeking admission. This course has allied subjects namely 1) social problems and fields of social work, 2) social action ,social policy and social legislation 3) project formulation 4) Administration of service organization.

Aim of this course is to Apply the knowledge of social work in the domain of community development, human resource management, medical and psychiatric rehabilitation. To enhance the individuals to help themselves with the scientific knowledge about the dynamics of problem and social issues through utilizing the available resources for the empowerment of vulnerable groups. Encouraging students to relate theory with field work practice and to understand human behaviour and critically analyse the social issues by the means of adoption and values of social work in different dimensions

FACULTY PROFILE

Ms Abinaya P A. currently serves as Assistant Professor at the Department of Social Work , Auxilium College, Vellore. She completed her B.A (English) at Women’s Christian College and acquired M.A Social Work (specialized in Community Development) from Loyola College, Chennai. She has qualified UGC NET December 2020 and June 2021 merged session in the subject Social Work. Her focus is to amplify the voices of vulnerable through student community.

 
 

Dr. Janaki S. currently serves as Assistant Professor at the Department of Social Work, Auxilium College, Vellore. She completed her B. Com (General) at Auxilium College Vellore and acquired M.S.W Social Work (specialized in Medical and Psychiatric) from Auxilium College, Vellore. She will complete her PhD Synopsis in 2025 and Publish papers in both Scopus and Non-Scopus Journal as well as a Book chapter. She completed her PhD at VIT Vellore.

 
 

Kamalprakash V serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Work. He completed his undergraduate studies in Computer Science at St. Joseph’s College, Trichy, and pursued his Master of Social Work with a specialization in Human Resource Management at Bharathiar University. He has consecutively qualified the UGC-NET examination for Assistant Professor (July 2024, December 2024, July 2025). He is deeply committed to fostering young minds to serve the society through value-based teaching and practical field exposure.

 
 

Grace Beryl Christy Serves as Assistant Professor at Dept of Social Work Specialized in Medical and Psychiatric She is a compassionate and ethical professional with a strong foundation in both management and social work. Demonstrates a unique ability to lead with empathy, integrity, and strategic vision. Skilled in coordinating teams, managing resources efficiently, and implementing people-centered programs that prioritize inclusivity, and community empowerment. Adapt at building. trust-based relationships, resolving conflicts with sensitivity, and advocating for vulnerable populations. Committed to ethical decision-making, collaborative leadership, and continuous growth to create sustainable, positive change in both organizational and social contexts.

  • Students of I-MSW went for Rural Camp to Don Bosco Centre, Jamunamarathur, Jawadi Hills from 08/10/2023 to 17/10/2023.
  • Department of Social Work and History Organized A One Day National Seminar on “Human Rights and Humanity” on 19.12.2023 at Auxilium College Autonomous, Vellore.
  • The Department of Social Work and Kanali Women’s cell in collaboration with ARUWYE Development Office of Salesian Sisters organized a one-day State level Seminar on “Gender Equality” on International Women's Day, 8th March 2024.
  • Flash Mob by I MSW and II MSW students near admin block. II MSW students explained about Social Work and its Specialization on 19/03/2024.
  • On 21.03.2024 the Social Work students I and II had a presentation on FOP (Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva).
  • Students of I-MSW went for Rural Camp to Pravaham, Palamathi Hills from 06/10/2024 to 10/10/2024.
  • On 12.08.2024 PG Department of Social Work in collaboration with Department of Computer Applications hosted an event to celebrate International Youth Day.
  • Organized a Two-Day Skill Training on the Topic of Empowering Lives: Human Rights and Skill Development Initiative on 10th and 11th December 2024.
  • On 13.01.2025 Students performed Villu Pattu as a part of Pongal Celebrations on the Topic “Traditional Pongal vs Modern Pongal”.
  • Department of social work organized study tour for II MSW students from 19.03.2025 to 23.03.2025 at Munar, Kerala.
  • On 18.03.2025 department of Social Work celebrated social work day through Flash Mob highlighting the theme Strengthening Intergenerational Solidarity for Enduring Wellbeing.
  • On 08.09.2025 and 09.09.2025, a skill training program was organized for I MSW students.
  • From 29.09.2025 to 03.10.2025, a five-day rural camp was organized at Don Bosco Centre, Jamunamarathur, Jawadi Hills, for I MSW students.
  • On 16.10.2025, in collaboration with the Department of Psychology, a one-day workshop was organized as part of World Mental Health Day on the theme “Navigating Mental Health Support in Catastrophes and Emergencies: Crisis Care,” led by Dr. Jayakumar C-NIMHANS.
  • From 01.12.2025 to 03.12.2025, a study tour was organized for II MSW students to visit institutions including NIRD, NIEPID, and People Helping Children (NGO).
  • On 03.12.2025, an awareness program was organized to commemorate World Disability Day 2025 on the theme “Fostering Disability-Inclusive Societies for Advancing Social Progress.”
  • On 03.12.2025, in collaboration with the Student Welfare Committee, a seminar was organized to commemorate World Disability Day on the theme “Rights and Welfare Schemes for Persons with Disabilities,” with Dr. K. Krishnan as the resource person.
  • On 10.12.2025, a pledge-taking program was organized as per the guidance of the State Human Rights Commission to celebrate World Human Rights Day 2025.
  • On 10.12.2025, a webinar was organized as part of the celebration of World Human Rights Day 2025 on the theme “The Role of Youth in Promoting Sustainable Development and Human Rights,” led by Mr. Jaraslo Vinod.
  • On 12.01.2026, a traditional food competition was organized by the Department of Social Work, judged by Dr. Latha and Dr. Kumari.
  • On 27.01.2026, I and II MSW students visited Shanthi Gramam, a home for leprosy-affected patients, as part of World Leprosy Day.
  • On 11.02.2026, a resource talk on leadership in social work practice was delivered by Mr. Kishore Das for I and II MSW students.
  • From 09.03.2026 to 10.03.2026, a two-day International Conference on “Fostering Women in Accelerating Progress Towards SDGs” was conducted with multiple resource persons.
